URL Rating

URL Rating is a third-party SEO metric that scores the backlink strength of an individual page — a specific URL — rather than an entire website. Measured on a fixed scale, it reflects how many and how strong the links pointing to that particular page are. It is a page-level counterpart to broader, domain-wide metrics, giving a focused view of one page's link authority.

How URL Rating works

URL Rating is calculated from a page's backlink profile: the quantity of links pointing to it and, crucially, the strength of the pages providing those links. Links from strong, well-linked pages contribute far more than links from weak or obscure ones. Because the metric is page-specific, it captures the reality that individual pages accumulate their own link equity — a single article that attracts many quality links can score highly even if the rest of the site does not.

URL Rating in practice

URL Rating is useful for comparing the link strength of specific pages, whether your own or competitors'. It helps identify which pages carry the most authority — valuable both for understanding what ranks and for planning internal links that pass strength to important targets. It complements domain rating, which measures the whole domain: a strong domain may still have weak individual pages, and vice versa, so reading the two together gives a fuller picture. As with all such metrics, URL Rating is an estimate produced by an external tool and only approximates how search engines weigh links; it does not directly determine rankings. Still, it is a practical guide for link building and content strategy, and it reinforces a central SEO lesson: authority is earned page by page, and the quality of the links a page attracts matters more than their raw count.

How is URL Rating different from Domain Rating?

URL Rating measures the link strength of a single page, while Domain Rating measures the whole domain. A strong domain can still have weak pages, and a single well-linked page can score high on a modest site.
