Trust Flow

Trust Flow is a link-quality metric that scores a website according to how trustworthy the sites linking to it are. Rather than counting links, it measures proximity to a curated set of trusted seed sites: the closer and more direct the connection between a page and those trusted sources through links, the higher its Trust Flow. It is a third-party metric, not an official search-engine figure.

How Trust Flow works

The idea behind Trust Flow is that trust propagates through links. Starting from a manually reviewed set of highly reputable sites, the metric follows links outward, with trust diminishing over distance. A site that receives backlinks from pages only a step or two from those trusted seeds scores well, while a site linked mainly from obscure or low-quality pages scores poorly, even if it has many links. Trust Flow is usually read alongside a companion metric that reflects link quantity and influence, and the balance between the two is telling.

Trust Flow in SEO strategy

Trust Flow is valuable because it captures quality rather than raw volume. A high link count paired with a low Trust Flow often signals spammy or artificial links, whereas a modest number of links from trusted sources tends to be far more beneficial. This makes the metric a useful guide for link building: the goal is earning links from reputable, topically relevant sites rather than accumulating many weak ones. Trust Flow complements other measures such as domain rating, giving a fuller picture of a link profile's health. It is worth remembering that these are estimates from external tools and only approximate how search engines actually weigh links. Still, as a practical proxy, Trust Flow reinforces a core principle of sustainable SEO: the quality and trustworthiness of the sites linking to you matter more than their number.

Is Trust Flow an official Google metric?

No. Trust Flow is a third-party metric created by an SEO tool provider, not something Google publishes. It is a useful proxy for link quality, but it does not directly determine rankings.
