What is DirectAdmin?

DirectAdmin is a graphical panel for managing hosting and a VPS server through a browser — it replaces working in the Linux command line and uses fewer resources than cPanel. It is commonly shortened to DA.

The panel runs in a browser window, so you do not have to install any extra software or know the syntax of Linux text-mode commands. Every day-to-day task — adding a domain, creating a mailbox, building a database — is done by clicking tiles and forms. DirectAdmin is regarded as a lightweight control panel: it uses less memory and server power than the heavier cPanel, which makes it a good fit for simpler hosting services and smaller servers. It is a solution recommended for people with basic technical knowledge who want to manage their hosting without touching the console.

How does DirectAdmin work and what does the panel handle?

DirectAdmin handles domains, email, SQL databases, files, DNS and SSL certificates from one place — all through a graphical interface in the browser. The panel translates your clicks into server configuration, so you never have to edit files by hand.

The most important DirectAdmin features:

• Website and domain management — adding domains, creating subdomains and redirects.
• Email handling — creating mailboxes, aliases and forwards, plus protections such as DKIM.
• SQL database management — creating, editing and deleting databases and users.
• File manager and FTP accounts — uploading website files through the browser or via an FTP account.

What access levels does DirectAdmin have?

DirectAdmin has three access levels: administrator (full control over the server), reseller (creates packages for clients) and user (manages their own account). Each level sees a different scope of panel options.

• Administrator — has access to all three levels and every server service, including system settings and creating reseller accounts.
• Reseller — has access to the reseller and user levels, and can create hosting packages and set up accounts for their own clients.
• User — has access only to their own hosting account: domains, email, databases and files.

This split of permissions separates managing the whole server from the day-to-day handling of a single account. A Nodea client on shared hosting works at the user level, while our team takes care of server administration.

How does DirectAdmin differ from cPanel and Plesk?

DirectAdmin differs from cPanel mainly in weight: it uses fewer server resources and has a simpler interface, but fewer options than the more popular cPanel. Plesk is a third control panel in the same category, valued for supporting both Linux and Windows.

• Resource usage — DirectAdmin is lightweight, cPanel is heavier.
• Ease of use — DirectAdmin is simpler and good for beginners; cPanel is more elaborate.

How do you enter DirectAdmin?

You log in to the DirectAdmin panel through the Nodea Client Panel — you choose Services, then My services, and click panel access next to your hosting. The panel opens in a new browser tab and needs no software installed.

The login steps one by one:

1. Log in to the Nodea Client Panel with your credentials.
2. Go to the Services section, then My services.
3. Select the hosting service you want to manage.
4. Click the button that opens DirectAdmin access next to that service.

You can also open DirectAdmin directly by entering the server address together with the panel port in your browser. If you need deeper access to the account than the panel provides, you use an SSH key to connect to the server in text mode. After logging in you see feature tiles — email, databases, files, DNS, SSL — grouped by topic, from which you launch the panel's individual tools.
