Hosting

Web hosting is a service that provides disk space and the computing resources of a server, where the files of a website, email or application are stored. Because the server runs continuously and is connected to a fast network, its content is available to users worldwide 24 hours a day. Hosting is the fundamental service without which no website could exist online.

How hosting works

When a visitor types a web address, their browser — via the DNS system — reaches the hosting server and retrieves the HTML files, images and data from a database. Web server software such as Apache, Nginx or LiteSpeed handles these requests. The hosting provider supplies the physical hardware, network links, backup power, backups and security, while the customer manages their account — usually through a control panel such as DirectAdmin, cPanel or Plesk.

Types of hosting

  • Shared hosting — many accounts use the shared resources of a single server; the cheapest, simplest option for small sites.
  • VPS — a virtual private server with a guaranteed resource pool and full administrative control.
  • Dedicated server — an entire physical machine reserved for one customer, for demanding projects.
  • Cloud hosting — resources spread across many machines, scaled elastically with traffic.

Practical application

The right hosting type depends on the project. A blog or company site usually runs well on a shared account, a growing online store benefits from moving to a VPS, and services that require continuous uptime turn to a high availability architecture with built-in redundancy. Nodea offers shared hosting packages with DirectAdmin as well as scalable VPS and dedicated machines matched to a specific workload.

Najczęstsze pytania

What's the difference between shared hosting and a VPS?

On shared hosting, many accounts share one server's resources — it's cheap and simple but limits performance and configuration. A VPS allocates a dedicated, guaranteed slice of CPU, RAM and disk plus administrative access, giving you far more control and stability under higher traffic.

Do I need a domain to use hosting?

Technically a site can run on a bare IP address, but in practice you need a domain so visitors can reach it easily. Domains and hosting are often purchased together and linked through DNS records that point the domain at the server.
