RLSA

RLSA (Remarketing Lists for Search Ads) is a Google Ads feature that lets you tailor text ads on the search network to people who have already visited your website. It combines two powerful signals: that the user already knows your brand, and that right now they are actively searching on Google — meaning high purchase intent.

How RLSA works

The foundation is a remarketing list built from an on-site tag, exactly as in classic remarketing. The difference is where it applies: instead of banners on the display network, RLSA changes how your campaign behaves in search results. An advertiser can:

  • raise or lower bids for listed users — for example bidding more aggressively on someone who already reached the cart,
  • expand keyword coverage — bidding on broader, more expensive terms only for people who know the brand,
  • adapt ad messaging to the stage of the buying journey.

For the feature to work, the list must contain at least 1,000 active users, and the site must have a correctly implemented remarketing tag with valid cookie consent.

RLSA in practice

RLSA shines wherever the decision process spans several steps. Typical scenarios include bidding harder on cart abandoners, running separate messaging to existing customers for upsells, and moving onto broad, costly terms only for audiences who have already visited. This concentrates the SEM budget on users with a higher probability of conversion, which usually improves return on ad spend.

Najczęstsze pytania

How is RLSA different from regular remarketing?

Classic remarketing shows display ads to people browsing other sites. RLSA works inside Google search results — the ad appears only when a listed user actively types a matching query, combining purchase intent with brand familiarity.

How many users does a list need to activate RLSA?

Google requires a remarketing list for search ads to hold at least 1,000 active users. Below that threshold the campaign will not serve ads, for privacy reasons.
