Page Experience is a group of signals Google uses to judge how comfortable a specific page feels to a visitor — separate from how valuable the content itself is. It captures the technical impression a page makes: load speed, layout stability, connection security and ease of use on mobile devices.
How Page Experience works
At the core of these signals are the Core Web Vitals — measurable quality metrics: LCP for how quickly the main content renders, CLS for visual layout stability, and INP for how responsively the page reacts to interaction. Supporting criteria round this out: an encrypted connection over HTTPS, mobile-friendliness, and the absence of intrusive elements such as aggressive interstitials that obscure content.
Google gathers this data both from lab tests such as Lighthouse and from real-world measurements collected by Chrome users, aggregated in the CrUX report. The metrics surface in Google Search Console, letting you track which pages need work.
Practical application
In practice, improving Page Experience means working on a site's performance and stability: compressing images, cutting render-blocking JavaScript, reserving space for asynchronously loaded elements, and applying lazy loading. Fast, reliable hosting matters too — a low server response time feeds directly into better LCP and TTFB figures.
Because Google now uses mobile-first indexing, the experience is assessed primarily on the mobile version of a page. Good Page Experience cannot replace valuable content, but when competing pages are similar in quality it can decide a higher position and measurably lowers bounce rates.
