Micro-conversion
A micro-conversion is a small, intermediate user action that signals engagement and moves the user closer to completing the main goal, even though it is not yet the final conversion itself. Unlike a macro-conversion — the main business goal, such as a purchase or a request for a quote — a micro-conversion is one of the smaller steps along the way toward it.
How a micro-conversion works
Micro-conversions let you track user behavior at the earlier and intermediate stages of the sales funnel. Instead of judging a site only by final transactions, you analyze the small engagement signals that precede them. This makes it possible to detect earlier where users get stuck and to optimize the path before they abandon the process. Micro-conversions are defined as measurable events and assigned a value in analytics tools.
Practical application
Typical examples of micro-conversions include: newsletter sign-ups, creating an account, adding a product to the cart or wishlist, downloading a resource (such as an e-book), watching a product video, clicking a CTA button, navigating to the contact page, or spending a set amount of time on a key page. Each of these actions indicates growing interest.
Micro-conversions are measured in analytics tools such as Google Analytics, configured as events or goals. They then become a valuable complement to KPIs — they let you assess the effectiveness of content and campaigns that don't lead directly to a sale but build engagement and support remarketing. This matters especially in industries with a long decision process, where many interactions occur between the first visit and the purchase.

How is a micro-conversion different from a macro-conversion?
A macro-conversion is the main business goal of a site, such as a purchase, a completed contact form or a service sign-up. A micro-conversion is a smaller intermediate step toward that goal, such as watching a product video, subscribing to a newsletter or adding to the cart. Micro-conversions help you understand user behavior at earlier stages of the funnel.
