Google Search Console
Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools) is Google's free tool that lets site owners monitor and optimise their visibility in organic search results. It provides data available nowhere else: which queries a site appears for, how many clicks it generates, and whether Google indexes it correctly. It is a foundational tool in SEO work.
How Google Search Console works
Once you add and verify domain ownership, the tool provides a set of reports that show the site "through Google's eyes." The most important ones are:
- Performance — queries, impressions, clicks, average CTR and position in results;
- Page indexing — which URLs are indexed, and which were skipped and why;
- Sitemaps — the status of submitted sitemap.xml files;
- Core Web Vitals and usability — how well the site performs on mobile and desktop.
Search Console also lets you manually submit URLs for indexing, detect penalties and security issues, and analyse your inbound link profile.
Practical application
SEO specialists use Search Console to identify high-potential queries with low CTR, spot traffic drops after algorithm updates, and fix indexing errors that block pages from appearing. The performance report reveals which content is worth expanding and which queries to optimise for.
The tool works best alongside Google Analytics: Search Console shows how users reach the site from search, while Analytics shows what they do once there. Together they give a complete picture from a Google query all the way to conversion, making them an inseparable pair in marketing analytics. Search Console data can also be exported and combined with third-party SEO tools to track visibility trends over longer periods. Reviewing the reports regularly helps catch technical problems early — for example a sudden spike in pages excluded from the index — before they take a toll on organic traffic.

Najczęstsze pytania
Is Google Search Console free?
Yes, Google Search Console is completely free for any site owner. It only requires verifying domain ownership — for example via a DNS record, a file on the server, or a link to Google Analytics. It is a fundamental tool for every SEO specialist.
How do you submit a page for indexing in Search Console?
Paste the URL into the 'URL inspection' tool and click 'Request indexing'. For larger sites it is better to submit an XML sitemap, which Google will crawl regularly and use to discover new and updated pages.
