Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing (partner marketing) is a marketing model in which a partner (publisher) promotes an advertiser's products or services and earns a commission for the results generated — most often a sale, a registration, or another defined action. Payment is tied to a real result rather than to a mere ad impression.

How affiliate marketing works

The partner places a special affiliate link with a unique identifier on their site, in a newsletter, or on social media. When a user clicks it and completes the desired action, a tracking system (usually based on cookies or URL parameters) attributes the conversion to the correct partner and credits their commission. Settlement can follow the CPS/PPS model (per sale), CPL (per lead), or CPA (per action).

The relationship often runs through affiliate networks that connect advertisers with publishers, provide tracking tools and ad creatives, and handle commission payouts.

Affiliate marketing in practice

Affiliate marketing is popular in e-commerce, finance, travel, and among digital service providers — including hosting companies, which offer partner programs for hosting, domains, or VPS servers. Technology bloggers and how-to creators publish reviews and rankings with affiliate links, earning on each referred sale. For the advertiser, the advantage is pay-for-performance: cost is incurred only after value is generated. Effective affiliate marketing relies on valuable content and audience trust, so it is naturally linked to content marketing and referral programs. Accurate conversion tracking and transparent payout rules — cookie validity, commission timing, and refund handling — protect both sides against abuse.

Najczęstsze pytania

How is affiliate marketing paid out?

Usually through a performance-based commission: CPS (per sale), CPL (per lead), or CPA (per defined action). The partner is paid only once the referred traffic produces the agreed result.

How does affiliate marketing differ from a referral program?

A referral program usually relies on recommendations from existing customers and rewards for referring friends. Affiliate marketing is a more developed, formal channel in which professional publishers promote the offer at scale through links and creatives.
